2008-05-01: A ten year trend in NOx emissions measured from space
For the period 1996-2006 tropospheric nitrogen dioxide (NO2
) measurements from GOME and SCIAMACHY have been analyzed to derive trends and seasonal variability for this period on a global scale. We see significant reductions (up to 7% per year) in NO2
in Europe and parts of the eastern United States, and a strong increase in Asia, most particularly in China (up to 29% per year) but also in Iran and Russia.
For more details see van der A et al.
Linear trend per year for tropospheric NO2 (1996-2005) from GOME and SCIAMACHY. Light grey areas: no significant (2-sigma) trend.
