Travel plan 2018

Objectives:

  • Present Results of the project at international conferences (EGU, AGU, AOGS, WCRP meetings, AMS)
  • Propose and organise scientific sessions where to discuss and further disseminate the outcomes of the research.
  • Promote collaborations in the frame of PROCEED and preparing for follow-up projects&research for the future career development of the Fellow
  • Promote initiatives in the frame of WCRP and in particular by contributing to the Working Group on Subseasonal to Interdecadal Prediction (WGSIP). See “Towards an international project aimed at quantifying the impact of land Earth System processes and feedbacks on seasonal forecasts” (GLACE-ESM) Concept-note proposal that has been proposed as a WGSIP initiative.

Minimum set of travels for 2018 necessary to pursue above objectives and according to PROCEED DoW:

Notes: 9600 EUR is the yearly funded budget by the EU for the exclusive use by the fellow for travels and training expenses. There is a residual budget of 540EUR from 2017 to be spent in 2018 (9600+540=10140EUR Total)

  • Secondment at ECMWF (Reading, UK) - including EC-Earth Meeting: 1-2 weeks mid January-Early February [PROCEED budget] [ 1000 EUR ]
  • Secondment at ECMWF (Reading, UK) - March-April: PROCEED visiting, 2-4 weeks  [PROCEED budget] [2000 EUR]
  • Visiting period at Barcelona Supercomputing Centre, Barcellona (Spain) - January-June period: up to 1-month invited visiting [1500 EUR; partial support provided by Spanish funding ]
  • Session conveneer and paper presentations at EGU General Assembly 2018, Vienna (Austria): 8-13 April 2018  [PROCEED budget] [1500 EUR]
  • Session conveener and paper presentations at AOGS 2018 - 15th annual meeting (Honolulu, HI, US) : 3-8 Jun + Invitation at IPRC 1-2 weeks with possible partial support (before or after AOGS 2018) [2500 EUR; possible partial support by H2020 SECLI-FIRM project for collaboration with NMME and APCC seasonal forecasts at IPRC and APCC as mentioned in the SECLI-FIRM DoW]
  • Secondment at ECMWF (Reading, UK) - End Summer-Fall visiting (period September-November; possibly including ECMWF annual seminar): 1 month (or more budget permitting) [3000 EUR]
  • Participation at the International Workshops on Subseasonal to Decadal Prediction, 17-21 September 2018 - NCAR, Boulder (CO) - USA [ 2500 EUR]
  • Session proposal and paper presentations at AGU Fall Meeting 2018: 10-14 December [ 2500 EUR; possible partial support by H2020 SECLI-FIRM project for collaboration with NMME and APCC seasonal forecasts at IPRC and APCC as mentioned in the SECLI-FIRM DoW]
  • Visiting period at Pusan National University and APEC Climate Centre (APCC), Pusan, South Korea. Autumn-Winter [dates to be decided], 2018 [2000 EUR; partial support may be provided by APCC and/or IBS Center for Climate Physics.]

Total provisory estimated Budget: 17000 EUR
Note that current total travel budget is higher than the EU allocated budget for exclusive use by the Fellow [10140 EUR]. To this aim partial support will need to be asked to partner/inviting organisations, other funded H2020 projects at KNMI (e.g. SECLI-FIRM) and/or KNMI institutional/overhead budget.
