Session on super modeling at the EGU 2014 in Vienna

Posted by Frank Selten on April 5, 2014

At the General Assembly of EGU, a session on supermodeling was organised on wednessday April 28th. During this session, results from the SUMO project were presented and discussed. The program of the session is available for the orals and posters. Around 70 people attended the oral session that contained a mix of talks discussing non-interacting and interacting ensemble studies and the advantages of multi-model ensembles.

SUMO summer school Ohrid

Posted by Frank Selten on Oct 13, 2013

The SUMO summer school was held 1-7 September 2013 in Ohrid, Macedonia. It was aimed at graduate students and PhD students with a background in physics, or mathematics as well as those working with climate models. Experts from nonlinear dynamics, machine learning and climate modeling lectured on different aspects of the super modeling concept. Topics included synchronization of non-linear systems, optimization, attractor learning and climate modeling. The mornings were devoted to lectures, the afternoons to computer exercises. The lectures were recorded and are available for viewing.

Posted by Frank Selten on Nov 10, 2011

The first year results are described in a set of reports that can be downloaded from the deliverables page. Super modeling and synchronization is explored in a number of low and intermediate complexity models.

First SUMO paper published

Posted by Frank Selten on June 30, 2011

In a new paper published in Earth System Dynamics, a proof of concept is presented of the super-modeling strategy. In the context of low-dimensional chaotic systems a super-model based on connected imperfect models is able to simulate the perfect model very accurately after learning. Jozef Stefan Institute joins SUMO project

Posted by Frank Selten on May 10, 2011

Experts of the Jozef Stefan Institute on data-driven modeling have joined the SUMO project. Different approaches to derive mathematical models based on data will be applied to the modeling of the connections in the super modeling approach. The work is described in an extra work package WP6. The principal investigator is Saso Dzeroski.
